{"id":1142,"date":"2018-06-13T15:32:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T15:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.boiteinterculturelle.ca\/?p=1142"},"modified":"2020-04-26T15:38:02","modified_gmt":"2020-04-26T15:38:02","slug":"sherbrooke-will-vibrate-to-the-rhythms-of-the-sahara-and-indigenous-drumming-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/boiteinterculturelle.ca\/en\/sherbrooke-will-vibrate-to-the-rhythms-of-the-sahara-and-indigenous-drumming-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Sherbrooke will vibrate to the rhythms of the Sahara and Indigenous drumming this summer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"bluebox\">The Intercultural Project between Canada and Morocco will provide an opportunity for dialogue and exchanges between musicians from both countries, as well as with the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Toronto (Ontario), June 13, 2018&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 After a successful first&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/marchandedidees.ca\/en\/projects\/2017-intercultural-exchange-project-canada-morocco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intercultural Project<\/a>&nbsp;in Morocco in October 2017,&nbsp; Marchande d\u2019id\u00e9es is pleased to announce&nbsp;\u2014 in partnership with the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ftms.ca\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke (FTMS)<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 a new edition of her on-going project, which will take place in Sherbrooke from August 10-12, 2018. This partnership will allow for a musical residence and exchange between Daraa Tribes from the Dr\u00e2a River Valley in Morocco and Red Tail Spirit from Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>This will be the second time that the FTMS will offer a musical residency as part of its programming, having hosted several Moroccan artists in 2010 as part of an exchange with the Festival Gnaoua and World Music of Essaouira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During three days, Daraa Tribes and Red Tail Spirit will draw on their own experiences and cultures to create a musical piece to be presented on the last day of the Festival. Festival-goers will witness a real mix of culture through music and workshops offered by each group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be a first trip to Canada for Daraa Tribes&nbsp;whose members&nbsp;represent&nbsp;five different tribes: Gnawa, Saharoua, Amazigh, Regaga, and Lkaaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the occasion, Red Tail Spirit will welcome, in their drumming circle, two Atikamekw musicians from Wemotaci in northern Quebec, pianist Simon Denizart, as well as indigenous dancers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2014in addition to the collaboration\u2014Marchande d\u2019id\u00e9es is offering the guest group Daraa Tribes exceptional opportunities to share their culture and musical heritage in Canada&#8217;s two largest cities, Montr\u00e9al and Toronto.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These two events\u2014a show at legendary Club Balattou on August 15th at 9 p.m., birthplace of the International Festival Nuits d\u2019Afrique, and another one at the 17th Annual Small World Music Festival, on August 17th at 8 p.m.\u2014will allow people to discover an eclectic musical sound fusing the ancient tribal music of southern Morocco and desert blues.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quotes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We are very happy to participate in this type of collaborative program. They fuse their respective traditional tribal sounds with modern instruments to create their own musical style.<\/li><li><strong>Red Tail Spirit<\/strong>&nbsp;is an Indigenous drum group from Canada. The group has performed in several locations including Trinidad and Tobago, France and the Sahara Desert in Morocco in 2017. The group is often called to perform in special events.<\/li><li><strong>The Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke<\/strong>&nbsp;will hold its 21st edition from August 8 to 12, 2018 at Parc Quintal.
