Multiculturalism in rural communities

In 2021, during the series of screenings of the documentary Mamu Ensemble Together, which focuses on music as a tool for dialogue, La Boîte conducted a survey of participants in order to find out the added value of intercultural projects carried out in rural areas.

A large majority of respondents (89%) somewhat agreed that there is a need in their community to discuss multiculturalism.

The results are convincing and demonstrate an immediate need to work on awareness-raising and to have access to tools that facilitate dialogue.

We live in a vibrant multicultural country. Each brings a unique and different perspective which helps to enrich and broaden intercultural dialogue. If we work to develop our understanding of other cultures, we are much more likely to have meaningful interactions and exchanges.

La Boîte interculturelle is characterized by its community approach based on 3 essential elements:

  • Culture – Motivated by the desire to share and learn from each other.
  • Exchange – Willing to learn more about the way of life, tradition and customs of the “other” while accepting their distinction.
  • Change – Engaged in a process of change for a future that is the image of a humanity respectful of difference.
