Daraa Tribes: A First Visit to North America!

Marchande d’idées is pleased to announce Daraa Tribes first North American visit to the 17th Annual Small World Music Festival in Toronto on Friday, August 17th, 2018 at 8 p.m. at Harbroufront.

Daraa Tribes opens the door to the Sahara with a distinctive eclectic sonority merging the ancient tribal music of the Drâa Valley in Morocco with the blues of the desert.

With its members hailing from different tribes in southern Morocco—Gnawa, Saharoua, Amazigh, Regaga, and Lkaaba—Daraa Tribes invite you to get off the beaten track with their haunting grooves influenced by Ali Farka Touré and Tinariwen. Your ears will be filled with their electric guitar riffs, tribal percussion and unique vocal styles.

Tribes reflects the diversity of those tribes, which have created and prospered from a culture of peace and tolerance amongst them, established and cultivated over the centuries.

Daraa Tribes will be available for interviews on Friday, August 17th.

  • Who: Daraa Tribes – Tribal Fusion & Saharan Blues
  • Where: Harbourfront Centre, 231 Queens Quay W.
  • When: August 17 at 8 p.m.

Daraa Tribes is a tribal fusion and saharan blues band from the oasis town of Tagounite in southern Morocco. They fuse their respective traditional tribal sounds with modern instruments to create their own musical style.

We’re very excited for our first trip to North America and to bring Saharan music and culture to the Small World Music Festival in Toronto.
